Starting August 1, 2020 non-residents can participate in the Medical Marijuana Program with a medical marijuana recommendation from a Louisiana Licensed Physician.
The Louisiana Medical Marijuana Program does not issue medical marijuana cards. The physician will electronically fax the recommendation directly to the medical marijuana pharmacy of your choice.
The Louisiana State Medical Marijuana Program is able to serve qualifying patients that are under the age of 18.
Any condition or ailment can qualify a prospective patient for medical marijuana.
All patients are protected under HIPAA. Strict rules protect the privacy of these records, including the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. Your identity and patient status in the medical marijuana program may never be disclosed to anyone without your prior authorization.
The HIPAA Privacy Rule provides federal protections for individually identifiable health information held by covered entities and their business associates and gives patients an array of rights with respect to that information.
The HIPAA Privacy Rule establishes national standards to protect individuals’ medical records and other personal health information and applies to health plans, health care clearinghouses, and those health care providers that conduct certain healthcare transactions electronically.
The Rule requires appropriate safeguards to protect the privacy of personal health information, and sets limits and conditions on the uses and disclosures that may be made of such information without patient authorization. The Security Rule specifies a series of administrative, physical, and technical safeguards for covered entities and their business associates to use to assure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information.
